2008 has been declared the Year of the African Youth (YAY) by the African Union. The year will be used to spotlight priority youth issues as well as to promote ratification of the African Youth Charter. Africa has a rich heritage of artistic and cultural expression. In the 21st century this tradition continues to thrive, both indigenous forms as well as through embracing new forms and traditions from outside the continent.

In this showcase year for young Africans your challenge is to create a work of art, music, literature, or photograph that illustrates or bares testimony to the cultural vitality of the African continent and young Africans as the custodians of their rich culture and heritage.
