Climate change was high on the agenda of the recent G8 summit in Japan, and somehow they always seem to fail to reach an agreement to curb the disaster that has already stared to manifest itself in various areas.

Three children aged between 6 and 10 are playing football almost at the edge of the open canal of the sewage system. They do not seem bothered by the bad smell that comes out of the dirty canal. The probability of their ball falling into the open dirty canal is high. When this happens they insert their hands into the canal to pick up the ball. This is Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.

I am blessed with a wonderful circle of friends that many may not have had the chance to enjoy in their entire lifetime. One of my best friends happens to be of the “other race”, and it just occurred to me that if we were a couple of decades back, our friendship would never have happened.

Last year, more than 43 million people all over the world stood up and spoke out sending a clear and powerful message to governments: Keep your promises to end poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
